Affordable Care Act (ACA)

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a comprehensive reform law, enacted in 2010, that increases health insurance coverage for the uninsured and implements reforms to the health insurance market. This includes many provisions that are consistent with AMA policy and holds the potential for a better health care system.

What is considered an ACA (Affordable Care Act) plan?

An ACA (Affordable Care Act) plan is a type of health insurance plan that meets the standards set by the Affordable Care Act. These plans must provide a comprehensive set of health benefits, including preventive care, doctor visits, hospitalization, and prescription drug coverage. All ACA plans must also offer certain consumer protections, such as no lifetime or annual limits on coverage, no pre-existing condition exclusions, and no gender discrimination.

What do ACA (Affordable Care Act) plans cover?

ACA plans cover a range of essential health benefits, including doctor visits, hospitalization, preventive care, prescription drugs, mental health services, and more. They must also cover services like maternity and newborn care, laboratory tests, and pediatric services, including dental and vision care for children.

What is the ACA (Affordable Care Act) in healthcare?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a comprehensive health care reform law enacted in March 2010. The ACA was designed to increase access to health insurance, lower costs, and improve the quality of care. The law includes provisions that allow individuals to purchase health insurance through state and federally run health insurance marketplaces, expand Medicaid coverage, and require employers to offer health insurance to their employees. The ACA also includes provisions that require insurers to provide certain benefits and prohibit them from discriminating against individuals with pre-existing conditions.

Are Obamacare and ACA (Affordable Care Act) the same thing?

Yes, Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are the same thing. The Affordable Care Act is the official name of the healthcare reform law passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in 2010.

How does ACA (Affordable Care Act) work?

The ACA works by providing subsidies and cost-sharing reductions to make health insurance more affordable for individuals and families who purchase health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace, employer plans, or privately. Additionally, the ACA expands Medicaid coverage for lower-income individuals and families, and it requires most health insurance plans to cover essential health benefits such as doctor visits, hospitalizations, prescription drugs, maternity care, and preventive care. The ACA also prohibits insurers from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

When Is The Open Enrollment Period?

Individuals can enroll into an ACA plan during the open enrollment period which is typically from November 1st to January 15th. Employer based ACA plans will have their own open enrollment time frame. However, some people may qualify for a special enrollment period outside of open enrollment. If you have questions about enrollment please call our office at 623-237-3481.
